Preserving hope in Afghanistan
Protecting children in the world’s most lethal conflict
Child Alert is a briefing series that presents the core challenges for children in a given crisis location at a given time. This issue examines the deadly impact of protracted armed conflict on vulnerable children and young people in Afghanistan and addresses the enormous obstacles to providing them with the support and services they urgently need.
“As long as the conflict in Afghanistan continues,” the report states, “the parties involved must protect children and safeguard their rights to education, health, water, sanitation, hygiene and other services. It is their obligation under international humanitarian law and international human rights law.” The Child Alert concludes with a specific call to action, insisting that the parties to the conflict must uphold these international standards and ensure that children are protected.
